Tramadol/Ultram was really effective fighting my DDD and herniated disc pain. Unfortunately, after 3 days first symptoms of depression appeared, so I had to stop treatment. But that’s not all. It also caused insomnia and made me itch like crazy at night, so there was no way to continue therapy. At the moment I am actually without pain meds during the day. Before I sleep I take Darvocet and a muscle relaxant. I had this bad luck that Tramadol made me suffer. But if it didn’t, I would definitely continue taking it due to its pain killing effects.

My advice is simple: without pain killer your life is a mess. So if you have an opportunity to fight with pain, just use it.
I have been considering the risk of addiction also. I learned that you may get dependent physically and psychologically- these are two different types of addiction. Psychological addiction is what you would get from street drugs, for example. It gives you a kind of emotional pleasure. Physical addiction is when your body gets used to particular substance and it needs it to go on normally. To be honest, I don’t care about that anymore. We can get addicted from almost anything. And pain is simply too high price. Not to mention the fact that in many cases people decide to live with pain just because they are scared of something that don’t even need to come. This is just against logic, as one of you already said. I have been taking Tramadol for a few years now, and it is usually effective for me. So rejecting the pain relief just because some have irrational fear would be a stupid solution. That’s my view. Good luck! |

I am waiting for a major neck surgery. I have DDD and nerve impingement involving c3 thru c7. My doctor increased the dose of Lyrica to 100 mg 3x a day. Additionally, I was prescribed Tramadol. To be honest I can’t say it brought any positive changes. I don’t see any improvement. I am left handed and need to be very careful exploiting my left arm. My right arm hurts too, but less than the left. Ken Hawk.

I really appreciate all the answers. At the moment I am taking 100mg only when I feel that I really can’t stand the pain. The effectiveness lasts for about 8 hours. Fortunately my sleep is not disturbed. Generally, I don’t feel too bad.

My problem is quite complex. I have not only disc pain but also nerve pain. I started taking Tramadol, 50 mg every 8-hours. Although it gives me some relief from disc pain, it is helpless when it comes to my nerve pain. That’s how it looks in my case. Oh, and this awful skin itching all the time, which I really hate. Bib.

I started treatment with Tramadol about 9 years ago. The itching was so irritating that I was ready to stop taking it. However doctor told me it will disappear when my body gets used to new medicine and it did. I never stopped treatment. I take two 50mg in morning and 2 more in afternoon. This drug is really effective. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have taken it for so long.

Hi. I am working in a pharmacy so I am quite familiar with Tramadol adverse effects. I was prescribed it recently because my pain was simply unbearable. It works great. My dosage is 2 50mg tablets every 4 hours, max 8 in a day. Tramadol enable me to work full time and I can drive easily, since I don’t suffer from side effects (what a lucky I am). Well, I need to admit that Tramadol helped me to keep providing normal lifestyle. But if it doesn’t work for somebody, my advice is to try something else. It’s just a matter of an honest conversation with a doctor.

Let me put it this way: I’m sick and tired of Tramadol. It gives me the worst symptoms I could imagine. First of all, the initial dosage was not effective, so they increased it. This in turn gives me a feeling of a hangover anytime I wake up in the morning. And when I don’t take it, I get the shakes, cold sweats. What else? My stomach ache gives me no breaks not to mention the ache I feel in my whole body. I was advised by my aunt to search for alternative medicines. Well, my body tells me I will really need to do that- whatever it means.
