My doctor asked me to stop taking 10/325 percocet and take 50 mg Tramadol instead, before a surgery which will probably be in the 1st or 2nd week of April. As I understand, it is not a narcotic, but I am still worried that it may work similarly to a narcotic. I am filing the prescription tonight and I have some questions: What dose were you taking? Did you have any side effects? Was it good in treating your pain as compared to other medications? What were you taking before Tramadol? How long did one dose last for you? Did you have any problems when you wanted to stop taking it?
Thanks!! |

When I was on it, I had the worst hallucinations and voices in my head and when I closed my eyes, all I could see were not sharp, skeletal faces. It was like being in a Pink Floyd concert when Syd Barret was there!!! I had to stop taking it, it was a nasty painkiller and I felt better on KAPAKE

I had a much different experience. I stopped Perocent and started taking Tramadol. I did not have any side effects but I still have pain. So it really doesn’t work for me now, maybe because I have been taking it for too long now. Usually, any painkillers make my stomach sick, but this one did not do that at all. This is the first drug my stomach tolerates.

Hiya! I have been on Tramadol since February 09, and it works for me. The negative aspect at first was that I felt sick, I had nausea and was tired. However, be sure you eat enough fruit and fiber as constipation is common. I use drugs stimulating evacuation of feces with diclefenic and tramadol (6 a day) plus valium. You should stop having side effects after a week or so. Bob

Hi Mario,
I've been taking Tramadol for about 3 months now, I take 100mg in the morning and another 50mg at 12 p.m. It actually eases the pain a little and it doesn’t make me feel very tired. I do get sleepy. I haven’t had any side effects but for problems with falling asleep, so I don’t take it at night. I’m also taking hydrocodone 5/500 which doesn’t treat my pain but helps me fall asleep so I take it at night. The interesting thing is that with Tramadol, I don’t have to take a nap. Mick |

I took the first dose 1 ½ hours ago after dinner and pain is less stronger for sure!! I am also able to function. I feel a little like after taking narcotic, but not too bad. I also feel a bit wired. Thanks for writing your opinions.

Yay!
I am happy to hear it is working for you. Some people tolerate it very well. Your words have reminded me I want not to be on this drug as soon as I can get away from it. As soon as I get a timeline I will be trying to stop taking Tramadol so I can minimize the dose and stop before I get used to it too much. That is, if it all gets approved by insurance. When the time comes you may try to take less and less of the drug if you take it regularly and finally stop using it. You can have some withdrawal symptoms too as I had but you will probably be fine. Try not to use it for as long time as some of us have, which is not the wiser thing to do! |

I used to take Hydrocodone 5/325 mg and changed it for Tramadol 50 mg and it is a lot better for me. I have no side effects or nausea. I did not feel the pain I had after my surgery and I slept 10 hours every night. At first I took 2 tablets every 4 hours, then, after a few days I minimized the dose to 2 tablets every 6 hours, and a few days later it was only 1 tablet every 4 hours. Then, it was 1 tablet at the end of the day before going to bed. Now, after 2 weeks I take Extra Strength Tylenol when I need. I had no withdrawal effects after 2 weeks of not taking it.
